T-Mobile says first day of iPhone sales brought 'lines out the door' at most stores

Today's the day that the iPhone finally made its way onto the fourth and final major U.S. operator, as T-Mobileofficially began selling the iPhone 5 at all of its retail locations. Many folks are likely curious about how well the Magenta iPhone 5 has been performing on its first day of availability, especially since the regular iPhone 5 has been available on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon since last September. Well, if T-Mobile Chief Marketing Officer Mike Sievert is to be believed, the device is doing pretty well for itself.
Sievert told AllThingsD that the first day of iPhone sales "has been gangbusters for T-Mobile," adding that there were lines that extended out the door at almost all of T-Mobile's near-3,000 locations this morning. "Clearly they want the iPhone 5, and they are voting with their feet that they want it from T-Mobile,” the executive said. T-Mobile is also selling the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 in select markets.
As I noted before, T-Mobile is the final big U.S. carrier to begin selling Apple's iPhone, following AT&T in 2007 and both Verizon and Sprint in 2011. That didn't stop two million T-Mobile customers from bringing unlocked iPhones onto the Big Magenta network over the years, but going that route can require more effort and cash that simply buying a device straight from a carrier. Now all T-Mobile customers can easily get an iPhone that works with both T-Mobile's HSPA+ and LTE networks, and if they have an old iPhone laying around, they can even snag a new iPhone 5 for $0 down. Did any of you contribute to T-Mobile's "gangbusters" day by picking up an iPhone from the magenta carrier today?
