About a month ago, T-Mobile officially flipped the switch on its 4G LTE network in seven cities across the U.S. The magenta carrier hasn't said much about its LTE network since then, but according to a new report, that'll be changing soon.
Our pals over at TmoNews have been told that T-Mobile is planning to activate its LTE service in several different cities in May, followed by launches in another two dozen markets in June. While the details are a bit hazy for now, it's said that Honolulu and Maui, Hawaii; Minneapolis, Minn.; Richmond, Va.; and both Austin and San Antonio, Texas, are among the locales that'll be going live in May. It's also possible that the California cities of Fremont, Modesto, Oakland, Santa Barbara, San Francisco, Stockton and parts of Los Angeles will be lit up in May, depending on how T-Mobile's scheduling.
Moving over to June, it's rumored that right around 24 markets will be going live during the month. The bad news is that there's no word yet on exactly which cities will be included in the June expansion.
Obviously all of this information is still up in the air for now, but considering that T-Mobile's LTE network is currently only live in seven cities, I'm sure that many T-Mo customers are excited to hear that their operator will be getting more aggressive with its expansion efforts in the coming months. T-Mobile expects to cover 100 million people with its LTE network by mid-2013, with that number growing to 200 million by the end of the year. With all of the fresh LTE-capable devices that are hitting T-Mobile's shelves, hopefully Magenta can achieve its goals so that its users take full advantage of that new hardware.
